King Charles Welcomes New Chickens to Highgrove Gardens

King Charles, known for his passion for nature, the environment, and farming, recently welcomed 31 new chickens to his Gloucestershire home at Highgrove Gardens. The move comes as a part of a rehoming initiative by the British Hen Welfare Trust, with the King personally naming one of the chickens, Henrietta. The charity shared the news on Instagram, celebrating the one millionth hen rehomed at Highgrove Gardens.

Royal fans were thrilled by the King’s gesture and expressed their excitement and support for the new additions to his home. Many took to social media to commend His Majesty for his kindness and support for animal welfare. The British supporters of the charity have been praised for their efforts in providing deserving creatures like hens a happy retirement.

Highgrove House has been the family home of King Charles since 1980, where he lived with Princess Diana and their two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. The once overgrown gardens have flourished under the King’s ownership and now attract up to 40,000 visitors annually. Prince Harry fondly recalls his time at Highgrove, mentioning the basement turned private club, Club H, where he found solace and mischief as a teenager.

In addition to King Charles’ new chickens at Highgrove Gardens, Prince Harry and Meghan have their own chicken coop at their Montecito home in California. The coop is designed for their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, providing them with a hands-on experience of caring for animals and learning about nature.

The British Hen Welfare Trust continues to work tirelessly to save and rehome thousands of commercial laying hens each year, making a significant impact on animal welfare in the UK. The charity’s founder and CEO, Jane Howorth, expressed her joy at reaching the milestone of rehoming one million hens and thanked all the supporters who have welcomed these creatures into their homes.

As King Charles embraces his new role as a chicken owner at Highgrove Gardens, the future looks bright for the royal flock. The King’s dedication to nature, farming, and animal welfare is evident in his efforts to provide a happy and sustainable life for the new residents of his estate. The addition of chickens to the royal household symbolizes a commitment to creating a harmonious environment for all creatures, big and small.
